Eight Letters

                     “Three Words/Eight Letters”



The echoes are golden, resonating through me
Unbelievable, enticing, the most wonderful words
Because you’re a wordsmith, and you’re good at your craft
You gave me a gift, the words you spoke, gilded and perfect.
Never could I imagine words that sounded so sweet
Or so precisely crafted.

Those brand-new words that you gave to me, they saved my life.
I am altered beyond recognition, hardly the same as I was before.
Phsyically I haven’t changed; the mirror reads exactly the same.
Maybe it’s my heart that has so dramatically transformed
To make me who I am.

Hard to imagine those three tiny words, those eight little letters
That can shake a being to their very core, and rock their world.
You can say it in a hundred different languages and it never means less.
I am not the first to be touched by this strange phenomenon of the heart
Nor will I be the last.


You’re the sunshine that warms my face in the morning
And you’re the stars that light my path in the night
You’re the books on my shelves, you’re the music on my radio
Everything that is good and whole in life, everything I love
That is what you are.

Dropping the pretenses; the analogies; the similies; truth be told
I can not tell you how very much I love you, with everything I am
I am so drastically different because you’ve shown me the other side
The secrets to life that I never knew, the unique ability to love one another,
And the promise of a future.
